About the School

Introduction and Welcome!
The summer of 2008 will be the 12th year for Pool School in Paradise, a collaborative effort between four of the leading pocket billiard professionals in the world:   Allison Fisher, Gerda Hofstatter, Mike Massey and Paul Potier.  This  event offers the pocket billiard enthusiast a unique opportunity to combine a great vacation with the chance to learn from some of the best players and instructors in the world.  For information about pricing and availability, click here.

All levels of players are welcome.  The instructors genuinely love to teach and are very patient.  This summer the School will accept only 16 students.  This will enable the instructors to spend more time with each individual student.

Agenda and Format
The school is held over a 5-day period.  The first day is dedicated to orientation and social activities.  Instruction begins on day two. A total of twenty-four (24) hours of instruction, both in the classroom and on the tables, will be provided.  Each morning starts with a classroom group lecture, led by one or more of the instructors, on topics around technique, strategy or other aspects of play.  After lunch, students are split up into four (4) groups, according to skill level.  Instructors rotate among the groups throughout the course.  Groups are kept small to ensure that each student gets lots of personal time and attention from each instructor.

At the end of each day students are invited to join the instructors for dinner.  There will be many opportunities to socialize with the Pros, practice what you've learned or to explore the local area on your own. Students often get together in the evenings to play and practice what they've learned.  Please click here to see comments from students from previous years.

Tuition and Fees
The fee for the Summer 2008 session is $3,500 US.  This fee includes instruction, hotel(5 nights) and table time.  Meals, group activities and other personal or incidental expenses are the responsibility of the individual student.  Space is limited to the first sixteen (16) students.  A $1000 USD deposit is required at the time of reservation.

Note:  The above rate is based on single occupancy.  A reduced tuition fee of $3,000 US  per person is available if two students sign up together and share the same hotel room.

Venue
No location has been confirmed as yet. However we will likely be in either Park City, Utah or Tokyo, Japan.

Date

The dates for PSIP 2008 are not confirmed but traditionally PSIP has always been in August or September. The session will start on Tuesday and end on Saturday. However we recommend that students arrive  by no later than Monday so they may be ready to join us the next morning. Tuesday is Orientation Day and school classes are Wednesday through Saturday.

Enrollment is limited to sixteen (16) students. Given the number of returning students from previous years (2004 had 11 repeat students), we expect to sell out early.  To guarantee your spot in this year's event, or for more information about pricing and availability, click here.

Upon Arrival in Vancouver
Please provide us with your flight information and we'll arrange to have you picked up at the airport and brought to the hotel.

Tuesday is Orientation Day. Starting at 10am everyone will meet in the Billiard Room. This will be a full day of fun with Pool. There will also be a chance for the Pros to evaluate your skill level.  At around 8pm, there will be a Trick Shot Exhibition by the Pros. Once school starts, afternoon sessions will be grouped by skill level for an optimum learning environment.

Excursion Information
As an added bonus  on Monday Mike Massey and Paul Potier will play hosts to anyone who would like to join them for a fun and relaxing day.  Everyone should meet in the lobby at 10am. Weather permitting, students will be invited to join the Pros on excursions to local attractions.
The cost of group excursions is the responsibility of the individual student.
